I have finally watched all of the Harry Potter films. I realize that most people my age saw these movies as they came out in theaters, but apparently I was busy doing something different. I truly enjoyed them and I’m somewhat dismayed that it took me so long to actually watch the things.
For a while (years heaped upon years) I have said that I didn’t want to watch them because I hadn’t read the books. I often have that feeling and have in the past regularly managed to read a book before watching the movie that came from it. This was not one of those times.
About five years ago I decided that, were I to make time for reading, I should read primarily books that could teach me something. I read about business and military strategies, about marketing and brand creation, and on newspapers. I made an exception for travel when I would read sci-fi and humor while on planes, but other than that I was determined to only read heavily boring, put-you-right-to-sleep style books.
So my friends and I decided that the best way to handle this was to plan a party. We crazily decided that we were going to watch 20 hours worth of movies in a single party. Which we smartly(ish) increased to a single weekend. Which we smartly(ish) decided to increase to two weekends.
All in all this took us three days of movie watching and I will admit that I intend to watch them all a second time. But in the meantime, I will leave you with this: I am more determined than ever to read those books.
