Before I moved into the tech field I was a singer. I went to college for Vocal Performance and learned about music theory, the nuances of interpretation, and saw more world-class performances than I ever dreamed possible.

I saw my personal hero, Audra McDonald, sing the song Stars and the Moon by Jason Robert Brown and was so moved by its charming cautionary tale that I decided right then to add it to my repertoire.

The tl;dl (is that a thing) theme is this: you can’t take it with you and, on the colder side, your plans aren’t always right.

The final thought, underscored by slightly discordant tones,  “I’ll never have the moon” is so poignant and touching. Add in McDonald’s Battle-esque style of interpretation and I was hooked.

How could you not?
