Shopping in Boxes

I love to shop. I love the social aspect, stopping off with the girls to get a soft pretzel and lemonade. I love seeing the new trends. Standing on tiptoes in front of tri-fold mirrors to ‘get a better idea’. I like finding little pieces that enhance my wardrobe and new classic drama staples.

Yes, I call my style classic drama.

I also discovered recently that I love shopping online. Online shopping, I know, is like one giant rummage sale. You’re bombarded with sales, online only deals, and expanded inventory – twice as much as in physical stores. The purchasing process puts some people off and I understand that.

However, I like online shopping because you get to open packages.

I just ordered some stuff from Amazon and I seriously almost ordered it all gift wrapped so I could open packages. Fortunately, I resisted that temptation and it came in three separate packages so I was able to open little boxes with great excitement.

There’s just something so awesome about opening a box that you don’t get from putting clothes away out of the plastic shopping bag.

I suppose I could insist on having my clothing all wrapped in shirt boxes as they used to be.

Did they used to be? Or is that just shirts that used to be…

Either way, opening boxes = happy.

Years ago I used to order a whole heap of SF and fantasy paperbacks from a specialist store in Auckland. They would arrive packed in cartons and I would have a wonderful time opening the boxes and picking out each paperback with its brand-new book smell. You’re right, it’s not the same buying 2 or 3 books at a local bookstore and taking the booksm out of paper bags.

Yeah, this is very true. Add to it the anticipation of the goodies’ arriving, and it’s almost like presents.
