The Greek system is not for everyone. That is a simple and frank statement of fact. Some feel that going Greek is fabulous, meaningful and a great way to help the well being of the world. On the other hand, some feel it is a frivolous waste of time, money and energy.

As for me, I have come to terms with the Greek system. I was one of those who felt it was just about worthless. While I am by no means sold on the idea of joining a sorority, I also no longer feel that they are an eyesore in the collegiate world. I’m just not sure they are for me.

When I taught at U of A, there were periodic fights between the Greeks and the Indies. One time there was a letter to the editor that said something like, “I’ll bet most of the people complaining about the Greeks have never even been to Greece! Let’s appreciate the quaint customs of other lands, and try to get to know their language and folkways!” I don’t remember the rest, but I’ve always thought it was funny.
